Website & Workshop

Tools: Google Sites, Symbaloo, Remind, Google Forms, Seesaw, Quizlet, Kahoot!, Quizizz, Socrative, Quizalize, Formative, EDpuzzle, Playposit, Padlet

Audience: English as a Second Language (ESL) instructors at Wyoming Adult Education Summer Institute

Challenge

The Wyoming State Director of Adult Education asked to me to give a presentation at our state conference to help our ESL instructors implement technology into their classrooms.

Solution

I selected 3 ISTE Standards for Educators to focus on: (1) Understand why we need to teach digital literacy skills to adult ELLs, (2) Explore multiple tech tools, and (3) Plan to integrate some tools into the classroom. I created a Google Slides presentation with the EdTech tools that I have successfully used over the years and developed a Google Sites website so that instructors could have access to the materials after the workshop.

Results

Participants were exposed to using new EdTech tools like Remind and Seesaw and walked away with resources to implement game-based and multi-modal eLearning solutions into their ESL classrooms.

Audience: Instructors of English Language Learners enrolled in the TESOL certificate program: Develop an Online Teaching Program

Challenge

One of my instructors from the TESOL program wanted to showcase some examples of online courses that former participants had created during the course and she asked me to create a video for her next cohort.

Solution

I created a Google Slides presentation describing my students and teaching situation, rationale behind why I developed my course in the way that I did, and things I would change in future iterations of the course. Then, I created a video to highlight the layout and specific activities of my Canvas course.

Results

This video is now being used as an exemplar in the TESOL certificate program: Develop an Online Teaching Program to inspire instructors with ideas and tips on how they can design their courses. It has been viewed 1,000+ times on YouTube.
